Normans Bay

Yesterday we spent the day on site at Normans Bay. It didn't seem as hot as the day before but we still both went a bit pink. The site is massive, with around 200 pitches. I imagine the pitches around the edge would be lovely but we were right in the middle and there wasn't much privacy.

The site is right next to the sea so we spent a couple of hours on the beach, which was relatively quiet. The beaches seem so similar to those in Portsmouth, there are similar shells and landscapes. No Isle of Wight though.

There is a Martello tower there (one of many built in the 19th century during the Napoleonic wars and onwards). This one looked like it was a private dwelling as it had been restored and plastered.

I sat and did a quick watercolour while on the beach. I'm trying to practise doing more sketchs 'in the field' as opposed to taking photos and doing a more detailed drawing when I get home.

Although the Camping and Caravanning club sites have good facilities the big sites are a bit soulless, so we are trying to go for smaller, more intimate sites for a while. They just tend to be a bit trickier to find spaces in this time of year.
